One on One Tutoring

1. Evaluation & Diagnostic Testing

The All Around Math assessment specialist interviews the student and administers a written diagnostic test at the same visit. The individualized process assesses math skills (including concepts, operations, computation, and applications) and uncovers learning disabilities. The individualized assessment is designed to accurately determine the student's mathematical skill level, and the one-on-one attention, allows for better assessment of the student's abilities and needs. We pride ourselves in pairing the best tutor to meet the student's needs.

2. Placement Meeting
The assessment specialist meets with the student/parent to recommend an individualized program and suggests a specific tutor. Once a tutor is chosen, the tutoring schedule is established meeting the availability of the student and tutor. Students typically participate in two to four sessions weekly. Each session lasts approximately one hour. Additional tutoring sessions may be added before school tests, midterms, finals and as needed.

All Around Math wants to be of service to the student, so, we also have drop-in tutoring availability for those times when assistance is needed between tutoring sessions.

3. Tutoring
One-on-one sessions take place at the All Around Math Center, and conducted in individual quiet rooms to eliminate any distraction. Tutoring sessions are always with the same tutor, unless otherwise requested.

Young children through grade 12: tutoring sessions are geared to each student's needs and include hands-on learning, visualization, computer/graphing calculator activities, math drill, and conceptual exercises. All Around Math also provide guidance and support to parents on how they can best help their children with mathematical education.

Advanced and adult students: tutoring sessions are customized to the student's individual needs from relearning material to working with advanced concepts. The tutor is always carefully matched to the needs of the student. Convenient morning, day, evening and weekend hours are available to meet everyone's schedule.

4. Assessment
Tutors continually measure student progress through timed tests, drills, standardized tests, and oral tests. One-on-one tutoring allows for constant evaluation and daily feedback to the parents. The student is always asked to describe their needs, as they may change from time to time.
